I enjoy going to the movies, but when I find a television high concept arc heavy drama/adventure I like them more than a movie. A TV series can do much more with character and plot development. In movies characters have to grow up a lot faster and sometimes that's unsatisfactory. When I watch a character in television grow slowly into the person they are destined to be - particular the growth arc of a fledgling hero or heroine, and sometimes villain - like Lex Luther in Smallville, I find more satisfaction. Only downside, and it is a pretty big one, the heavy arc stories from the likes of JJ Abrams for example - it is a big risk tying yourself into the world of high-concept writing, as the greatest enemy is TV Networks. If a show doesn't get enough ratings, they and only they consider efficient (never mind what the fans say, or the great lengths we go in our lobbying over a show) it gone! It's life cut short and we the viewers are left with empty coldness.
I am a fan of good TV and what I love about fans is the communities we create - like the one here on ShareTV. You know what else I love? I love that fans make podcasts about their favourite shows. If you like podcasts, then check out
