Gene Rayburn (Eugene Rubessa) born to Croatian parents
had a dream of being an opera singer, and set out to New York City From Illinois.. and wound up working as a page for NBC, and then landing a radio talk show"Rayburn and Fitch" on WNEW morning drive.
Gene then got the break he was looking for in show biz..and hosted his first game show, Choose Up Sides, aimed at kids, in 1956, when he was still acting as Steve Allen's sidekick and announcer on the Tonight Show. Game show producers Goodson-Todman later chose Rayburn to host a slew of other shows for them, including The Sky's the Limit Make the Connection, Dough Re Mi, Play Your Hunch, Snap Judgment and Tic Tac Dough. But it was the long-running The Match Game for which he is best remembered. The show debuted in 1962 and lasted for 20 years.
Gene Rayburn is, in my eyes, a legend in his own time and thanks to GSN, he can live on ...in his shows, his jokes, his art.You are loved Mr. Rayburn..
We know that you're making lots of people laugh wherever you are NOW Gene, my dear friend.Rest In _____Blank ;)xoxoxo
say Hi to Brett, and Charles for me.
