Though the show (and the titular shop) are supposedly set on the American side of the border, every exterior shot of Niagara Falls is obviously taken from the Canadian side. The city of Niagara Falls, New York is often seen across the Niagara River which divides the province of Ontario from the state of New York.
13 episodes were produced, but the show was canceled after only four episodes had aired. Afterwards, attempts were made to interest another network in airing the remaining nine episodes, which would have made the show one of, if not the first, American series to change networks midway through its first season. Ultimately, these efforts were unsuccessful, though the entire series was later released on DVD.
Caroline Dhavernas normally speaks with a French-Canadian accent and had to take lessons in order to adopt a more American tone of voice for the role.

Portions of the pilot episode had to be re-filmed when the actress initially hired to play Mahandra was replaced during production. Similarly, the actor hired to play Aaron was also changed, necessitating the re-filming of one scene in the pilot.

The shot of "Heidi Gotts", Eric's Wife, in "Wax Lion" was played by (Corry Carpf), not (Jewel Staite) who played "Heidi Gotts" towards the end of the series. The producers credit shot angles and the similarity of appearances of the actresses for the reason the audience didn't notice the change in actress.
Adam Scott was originally cast in the role of Aaron Tyler.

In the original version of the pilot, the role of the brother 'Aaron' was played by Adam Scott who was unable to commit to the rest of the series. They then hired Lee Pace whose unique performance led them to take the character in a completely different direction. The role of Mahandra was also originally played by Kerry Washington instead of Tracie Thoms.
Gretchen's couples card lists her and Robert's address as 146 Bonny Meadow Road, New Rochelle, New York. This address is a reference to The Dick Van Dyke Show - Rob and Laura Petrie lived at 148 Bonny Meadow Road in New Rochelle. Millie and Jerry Helper's address would have been 146.
Trailers for the fifth episode, "Crime Dog", were broadcast by Fox, but the series was cancelled before the episode actually aired.
Jaye and Aaron cross into Canada to find their deported housekeeper. The bus terminal at which they spot her is actually the concourse of Skydome, a 50,000+ seat sports and entertainment venue.

The character Mary Anne Marie Beattle, Jaye's neighbor (played by Beth Grant), crosses over into "Pushing Daisies" (2007) {Comfort Food (#2.8)}. On 'Wonderfalls', Mary Anne Marie decides to create the business selling muffins, called Muffin Buffalo. In the Pushing Daisies episode she represents her muffin company, Muffin Buffalo, in a cook-off against Ned (played by Lee Pace, who also played Jaye's brother Aaron on Wonderfalls). The character also appears in the pilot Mockingbird Lane, tying that project into this fictional universe as well.
