Wanda Gilmore: The police say it was probably kids. [to Joe and his friends] Do any of you know anything about this?
Ellen Talbot: Wanda, I'm sure these kids had nothing to do with it.
Wanda Gilmore: Well I know, but they have friends. [points at Max] I don't recognize this one.
Joe Talbot: Mrs. Gilmore, this is my friend Max, he's new in town and he's been with us all day.
Wanda Gilmore: Well Max, I apologize, but you've apparently moved in the middle of a crime wave. The police say there have been two other burglaries in the last two weeks. Also, probably by kids.

Ellen Talbot: What is it?
Joe Talbot: Max wasn't with us all day.
Ellen Talbot: Joe, if Max is responsible for this, you can't protect him.
Joe Talbot: But I just don't believe he would've done it. That other kid maybe, but not Max.

Joe Talbot: [huffs] Well when me and Max were playing ball, this older kid showed up and gave Max a new set of blades. Then they took off. I wanted to do something but I didn't know what to do. That kid acted like he was some kind of gangster.
