In the episode "New Blood", Sonny unintentionally causes an explosion, and then says, "Did I do that?" - Steve Urkle's line from Family Matters every time he breaks something.
In the episode "To Die in Bettendorf", Sid insults an overweight customer who can't find shoes in her size - exactly as Al Bundy does many times in Married ... with Children.
The name "Sonny Steelgrave" was also the name of a mobster in the movie Marlowe.
Vinnie Terranova's agent number 4587 was chosen because the show began filming on April 5, 1987.
At the beginning of season 4, it was inferred that Vinnie Terranova had been killed (in reality Ken Wahl had a dispute with the producers and was written off of the show). However, Vinnie (and Wahl) returned for the Wiseguy (1996) (TV) TV movie with the season 4 events having been erased from the series continuity as though it never happened.
Lifeguard's real name Daniel Benjamin Burroughs is revealed in "Wiseguy" (1987) {Call It Casaba (#2.20)}.
The episode title is a play on the Jim Morrison biography title "No One Here Gets Out Alive," which in turn was titled after lyrics from The Doors' song "Five To One."
Although this is the start of the Mel Profitt story arc, an uncredited Kevin Spacey appears for only a couple of seconds during the show's opening credits.
Ken Wahl was injured during filming when a camera dolly ran over his foot. Vinnie was written out by having him get hit by a taxi and Tony Denison as Raglin replaces him for the rest of the arc.
The episode is named after a song by Led Zeppelin.
Flashback scenes feature many cast members from previous episodes in cameo roles, including Chazz Palminteri and Patti D'Arbanville. Also features the song "Someone To Watch Over Me," which Deborah Harry sang in the "Dead Dog Records" story arc.
At the party, Vinnie says to Frank "Breathe deep the gathering gloom." This is a line from The Moody Blues song "Nights In White Satin," which was played in "No One Gets Out Of Here Alive," the final episode in the Steelgrave arc from the first season.
Frank's deadpan line "You can't fight in here. It's a war room." is a quote from the comedy "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb)(1964)."
The shoe store that Sid Royce (a.k.a. Elvis Prim) works in is called "Sport Shoes". This is a bit of an inside joke, as Frank McPike sarcastically called many criminals "Sport Shoes" throughout the run of the show.
McPike is told over the phone "Elvis has left Bettendorf". This is an obvious pun of the well-known announcement at the end of Elvis Presley's concerts "Elvis has left the building".
The song that is playing on the radio in Vince's truck is "My Little Girl" by The Jeff Healey Band.
Volchek asks what day it is, then when told, says "There's still time." In doing so, he mirrors Ebenezer Scrooge from "A Christmas Carol."
