  • Charles Dickens references: In the episode "Upper West Side story", where the class is studying "A Tale of Two Cities," Mozzie introduces himself to Evan as Professor Magwitch. Mozzie also often uses the alias "Havisham." Both are names of characters in Great Expectations.
  • In "White Collar" (2009) {Stealing Home (#3.15)} Neal reveals to June and Mozzie that he grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and that he was already a pool shark by age 9.
  • When Peter checks his email for information on Avery the Stock Exchange manipulator, there is an email from the "Law and Order Production Office" (Law & Order being a popular detective series). The email he actually checks is seemingly an update on his student loan interest rates, nothing to do with the case.

  • Neal's (Matt Bomer's) chosen alias in this episode is "James Main," which may be a play on the 1980s TV miniseries _North and South (1985)_ in which one of the two lead characters, George Hazard, the northern character, was portrayed by James Read, and the other lead character, the southern character, Orry Main, was portrayed by Patrick Swayze). Hence James Main is a proxy for North and South, indicating New York for north (James), where Neal was before leaving the USA, and whatever Spanish/Portuguese speaking country Neal and Mozzie are hiding out in (which turned out to be Cape Verde, south and east of the USA) (Main) for south.
