The cast is brilliant and the show is very well put together. With such ridiculous scenarios and even more bizarre solutions, this show really delivers. Only downfall is its short season and even shorter running time. |

I'm happily surprised that his show can 1) be a comedy, 2) show real consequences, and 3) still be watchable. The balance between laughing out loud and oh, my G*d moments makes this show well worth the time. I look forward to its return! |

‘Weeds’ is a comedy of customs, this uses marijuana as central subject, but this, in the reality, has the intention of providing a critical vision of the life in the American suburbs. With personages well characterized, many times, even in excess, discuss subjects as for example cancer and the extreme use of ‘downsize’ in the American economy that is firing, massively, the middle class. This discuss the lack of life perspective of a society with standardized behaviors that finishes feeding the drugs industry. Discuss how the hypocrisy and the apparent Puritanism get the society to think that ‘I can smoke, buy and sell drugs’, but I do not want that my son uses this. The son of the neighbor can, but not my son. Everything is argued with much humor, where the violence of the underground of the drugs traffic and the gangs is not shown, only mentioned. The actors are excellent and had constructed personages who had grown during the three seasons. For whom knows the actress Elizabeth Perkins, thru her work in the cinema or in TV movies, her performance is not surprising, as a suburban desperate housewife, however the actress has been providing us an amazing interpretation above expectations. In 1991, Mary-Louise Parker, gave us an astonished performance in ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ and since then, she constructed a solid career with an impeccable work. Now in Weeds, she is very comfortable as the lead actress. She constructed a personage full of conflicts. With the justification of the necessity to care for her children and keep the Status Quo, she walks in a fine line, between the right and the wrong, the good and the bad, legal and the illegal one and Mary-Louise Parker gives us all that. ‘Weeds’ is one of those series that you have to watch, because it already guaranteed a place in the history of the American Television. This is a fun show to watch. You just never know what is going to happen next. A mom trying to raise 2 boys on her own, by selling WEED. |
