A single-camera, real-time comedy series about a single nightclub singer/voiceover artist who lives in Los Angeles. Ellie Riggs is surrounded by: her much-too-pretty married older sister, Susan; building superintendent Ingvar; ex-boyfriend Edgar; and neighbor Dr. Zimmerman. Meanwhile, Ellie tries to figure out just where she stands with her current beau, Ben Raffield, a guitarist in her band.

For the second season, the conceit was abandoned altogether in favor of a more conventional time structure, perhaps due to a combination of network pressure and the difficulties in planning and filming the action so that it appears to unfold in real time.
