Summary: Veronica comes to the rescue of a friend who is being blackmailed by her boyfriend, who is threatening to release an embarrassing video of her if she breaks up with him. While looking for justice for her friend Veronica comes across some surprising information about the night she was raped. After the Kane family posts a reward for Duncan Keith takes on the job of finding where he has fled to and trying to bring him back.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

MISC: When viewing the time stamp from the video from Shelly's party, Veronica sees that it says sometime in December. However, the party, as we learn in the next episode, was at the end of the last school year, not in December.
CONT: In season one it is said that Shelly Promroy's party was on Dec. 7, 2003. In season three Veronica tells Parker the party was an "end of the year bash, summer 2004".
CONT: When Tad kisses Carmen he has her face in both hands, then after the cut he only has his right hand on her chin.
CONT: Veronica drops her LeBaron off at Weevil's uncle's shop to be fixed. But later that day, when she takes the pictures of Tad and Seth at the boardwalk, she is sitting in her LeBaron. Then the next day, Logan brings her car to her, saying he had someone pick it up from the shop that day.

TRIVIA

Veronica's threat to tell Tad's Naval Academy classmates that Tad is gay (even though he is not) is a potent one because of the US Military's policy, commonly known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," that prohibits any non-heterosexual military member from revealing his or her sexual orientation. This policy has been in place since 1993 and was a replacement for the previous policy on the matter, which was a total ban on all homosexual service people.
This episode's title, "M.A.D.," refers to the military doctrine of "mutually assured destruction," in which it is assumed that neither one of two heavily armed military enemies (usually nuclear superpowers) will dare to attack the other first because both possess such large stockpiles of deadly weapons that there is no scenario in which a war between them would not spell destruction for them both. The doctrine was best known during the Cold War era, when military strategists hoped that it would prevent nuclear war between the US and Russia (or Russia's allies).

Logan mentions that the club at which his father's boat is docked is called The Albacore Club. That name, and the flag with the club logo that is seen briefly in the episode, are both references to the club with the same name and logo in Chinatown (1974), and is thereby also a reference to that film's incest revelations (similar to the question throughout Veronica Mars's first season about whether or not ex-couple Duncan and Veronica are really half-siblings).
