Elena's shallow friend; daughter of the town's sheriff, Elizabeth Forbes.
Caroline is a very superficial friend of Elena's and Bonnie's. In the beginning of Season 1, she falls for Damon, but that quickly fizzles out. She starts dating Matt Donovan, Elena's ex boyfriend. Caroline struggles with being jealous of Elena. She is upset that Elena and Matt have remained friends and is jealous of their history. Over time, Caroline has learned to be more accepting and a kinder person. She is very loyal to her friends and often encourages Elena. She has supported Bonnie through the death of her Grams and tried to mend Matt & Tyler's friendship. Caroline is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
