Bob Grogan, one of the detectives who worked on the Hillside Strangler case in Los Angeles, was hired as a technical advisor for the show, but was fired when he criticized rewrites of his ideas.
When ABC canceled the series in 1985, CBS acquired it as an addition to its late-night schedule, broadcasting first-run episodes for the show's 1985-86 season. Production of the series officially stopped in the spring of 1986, but reruns continued to air on CBS's late-night slot until September of 1987.
Actor James Darren plays "Dan Danko", an old "hill racing" rival of Hooker. Here Darren's character engages in illegal street racing and is accused of the robberies. In later seasons Darren will return to the series as "Officer Jim Corrigan", this time on the side of law and order.
People in this episode who have appeared in other things with William Shatner: Heather Locklear in "Boston Legal" (2004), Leonard Nimoy in "Star Trek" (1966), and 'Richard Herd' in "SeaQuest DSV" (1993).
After Hooker saves Mcguire's life in a gunfight McGuire says "I owe you one" and Hooker answers "I recall saying the same thing 17 years ago", a likely reference to the fact it had been almost 17 years since they started the first season of "Star Trek" (1966) together.
