Summary: A female corpse, dug-up and mutilated, is brought to Mulder's attention by a Minnesota agent claiming it as the work of aliens. Mulder, however, suspects the desecration is done by a fetishist and has the agent put out a warning to all law enforcement agencies in the area. At the same time, Scully begins to feel intensely uncomfortable with the work of the predator and his prey.

Chris Carter (I), who has sited this as one of his favorite X-Files episodes, originally wrote the script to be about a necrophiliac, which the Fox network would not tolerate. So the idea was changed to a death fetishist.
An FBI field agent watches a football game on TV and focuses on a play by Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter. The creator of the X-Files is also named Chris Carter (I).
During the opening scene (post credits), the camera pans past several gravestones. The name on one of the stones is Raymond Soames. Ray Soames is the name of one of the "Class of 1989" that the plot of the Season 1 Pilot revolves around.
