Fox Mulder: This is the fingerprint I took yesterday from Usher's office, these others are from an X-File. Ten murders, Baltimore area, undetermined points of entry, each victim had their liver removed.
Dana Scully: Ten murders? Colton never mentioned...
Fox Mulder: Most likely he's unaware of them. These two prints were lifted five years before he was born, at Powhattan Mill. And these three were lifted probably... five years before his mother was even born.
Dana Scully: Are you saying these prints are from the 1960's and 1930's?
Fox Mulder: And fingerprinting was just coming into its own in 1903, but there was a murder then involving an extracted liver.
Dana Scully: Of course.

Dana Scully: You're saying these are copycats?
Fox Mulder: What did we learn our first day at the academy, Scully? Every fingerprint is unique. These are a perfect match.
Dana Scully: Well, what then? That this is the work of a hundred-year-old serial killer who's capable of overpowering a healthy six-foot-two businessman?
Fox Mulder: And he should stick out in a crowd with ten-inch fingers.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: The tin of matches by the fireplace of Tooms' second victim changes position between shots.
CONT: When Tooms's grabs Scully's leg, his arm is completely out, yet in the next shot of him it's further inside again.
CONT: When Scully is having lunch with her friend just after the intro, we see at one shot from behind her she is holding a knife, then when the shot changes she is no longer holding it.
PLOT: When Mulder was looking through the 1903 Census, he learns that Eugene Victor Tooms was born in 1903. Later on, we find out the first murder involving Tooms occurred in 1903. How could Tooms have murdered somebody when he was still a baby?
CONT: When Tooms is in the cell right at the end, we see when his food is being brought over to him on the tray that there is a drink and a bun, when the shot changes to the other side of the door the drink and bun have swapped sides. When the shot changes back to the other side of the door, the tray is now the other way around and then when the shot goes back to the other side the whole tray has now disappeared.

TRIVIA

In episodes #1.2, "Squeeze" and 1.20, "Tooms", two actors played the character of Eugene Victor Tooms. One who appeared as the main character, the other, a contortionist who was responsible for squeezing into the tight areas that Tooms was able to do.
Eugene Tooms's address for 60 years has been 66 Exeter St.
Doug Hutchison is one of the two actors that played the character of Tooms, a liver eating mutant, in the episodes "Squeeze" and "Tooms". Hutchinson is actually a vegetarian, or was at the time. After filming "Tooms" he sent the liver of an animal to Chris Carter (I) as a thank you for the opportunity to play a character on "The X-Files".
