I remember watching this show with my dad as a kid, and feeling the weight of the world on my own shoulders as it came down around Kevin Arnold. Too young, then, to understand the trials of first loves, the distress of growing up through war, the responsibility we have to our parents, and the importance of the bond between friends the sheer greatness of the show didn't fully hit me until I reviewed it again as an adult. Watching it now, literally watching in half hour segments, Kevin Arnold growing up from a preteen to an adult amazes and astounds me. His troubles hit home, and force me to reminisce and rethink my priorities. The best lesson this show has taught me, is the value of understanding the sacrifices our parents make for us growing up, and even simpler, the value of a sacrifice. |
