The Wombles were created by Elisabeth Beresford in 1968. They first emerged in books, but in 1973 they premiered on television in a stop-motion animation series. The Wombles teach about helping the environment by recycling things in entertaining and creative ways. Their popularity did not stop with the television show; they went on to produce movies and albums that sold surprisingly well.
