In the late 1930s, world politics begin to head in a dangerous direction. In Europe Germany has rearmed and annexes several border countries into the Reich. Italy attempts to establish a Facist Colonial Empire under Mussolini. The Empire of Japan is ready to go to war with China. This show follows the actions of Naval officer Victor "Pug" Henry and his family leading up to Pearl Harbour.

  • Goof (anachronisms): Throughout the mini-series, set from 1939 - 1941, Captain Henry is shown wearing the Bronze Star Medal on his Navy uniform. The Bronze Star Medal didn't exist until 1944.
  • Goof (continuity error): When Slote examines Jastrow's immigration papers, the papers jump from his left to right hands between shots. [Part 4, Scene 2, time index 8:38]
  • The bombing of Pearl Harbor was shot at a naval base in Port Hueneme, California, and the navy only allowed four days of filming.
