MISTAKES/GOOFS

• FACT: The flame from the torch Artemus Gordon uses to get through the steel door is too diffuse to cut through metal. Cutting torches need a narrow, highly focused flame.
• FAKE: Near the end of the 2nd underwater scene in the salt water pond where he's trying to detonate a bomb, Jim West (Robert Conrad) comes up out of the water with his hair wet and matted down. Seconds after the bomb detonates and the camera is back on him, his hair is not only dry, it's completely blown dry.
• FAKE: Near the end of the underwater scene in the salt water pond when Jim West (Robert Conrad) is facing the camera, you can see a man in full scuba gear behind him directly over his left shoulder.
• FACT: Chylesium, identified by Artemus Gordon as a "chemical", bears the "-ium" ending that is typical of metallic elements, according to conventions adopted the the early 19th century. There are exceptions (helium, platinum, tantalum, etc.) but most of the metals with names not ending in "-ium" inherited their nomenclature from alchemy or ancient times. No element with the properties Gordon described were known to exist, then or now.
