MISTAKES/GOOFS

FAKE: Near the end of the episode, Orkney Cadwallader (Burgess Meredith) has Jim West tied down with a trigger device on his chest. Cadwallader tells him that if the pendulum on the device touches either of the small metal contacts at either end of the pendulum's arc, it will set off dynamite that will start an earthquake. Then Cadwallader is distracted by Artemus Gordon (in disguise) and starts to walk toward him. Cadwallader trips on the wires attached to the device, nearly pulling it off of West's chest, and the pendulum strikes one of the contacts with an audible "clink." There is of course no explosion, but for some reason they left this shot in the episode instead of using an alternate take.
CONT: As the episode opens, Artemus and Jim are standing at the hitching post in a deserted town, where Artemus finds a flyer that warned the citizens to leave town before the sun is "at its summit" on June 5. Artemus comments that it's the fifth, and looks upward at the sun, saying, "And guess where that sun is," prompting Jim to look upwards at the sun too. Then they walk away from the hitching post, and the sunlight is coming almost directly in front of them, casting long shadows as it only would at sunrise or sunset.
