MISTAKES/GOOFS
- CHAR: When the President and Abbey discuss who picked January 20th as the date of the inauguration, he wrongly blames the founding fathers. Originally, the drafters of the Constitution chose March 4th. It was changed to January 20th by the 22nd Amendment which was ratified January 23, 1933.
- MISC: After CJ leaves the White House for the final time, the camera slowly pans up at the White House. As it is panning, two people can be seen waving at the camera.
- FACT: On January 20, the sun sets at about 5:15 pm. It would not be possible for sunlight to be streaming in the windows of the Oval Office or of the Bartlet Airplane at about 6:00 pm on the day of the Inauguration.
- PLOT: In the Series Finale of the West Wing, President-elect Santos is inaugurated. He is given the oath of office by the Chief Justice, played by Ann Ryerson. But in Season 5 ep 17 "The Supremes" a new Chief Justice is appointed by President Bartlett, Evelyn Baker Lang played by Glenn Close.
- FACT: In the final episode, it is stated that the Inauguration Date of January 20th was set by the Founding Fathers. Until the mid-20th century, the Inauguration took place on March 4th. Harry S Truman was sworn in for his full term on January 20th and that has been the Inaugration date used ever since.
