MISTAKES/GOOFS
- CONT: As the camera shifts to a different angle, immediately after we first see the chessboard in Sam's office, the tallest white chess piece, presumably the queen, has now switched to the correct square.
- CHAR: When President Bartlett is talking to the press at the Airport he says that he had been given a "classic Stanton" chess set. The "classic" chess pieces were designed by Howard STAUNTON.
- FACT: When Sam enters his office and first sees the chessboard, the queens should be on the exact same file. The white queen, assuming it is the tallest piece, is on the wrong square. The rule is "Queen is on her color".
- CHAR: President Bartlet tells Sam, "The Spanish brought chess to the court of Charlemagne in 760 A.D." The correct form of the date is "A.D. 760."
TRIVIA
- The fictional town in the episode is based on Dixville Notch, an unincorporated small village in the Dixville township of Coos County, New Hampshire, USA. Dixville Notch is best known in connection with its longstanding middle-of-the-night vote in the U.S. Presidential Election, including during the New Hampshire primary. Since 1960, voters cast their ballots at midnight and polls officially close one minute later. Ever since 1968, the candidate who comes out on top in Republican Primary has been the eventual Republican nominee for President. Twenty-six voters took part in the 2004 elections.
