Summary: The President takes a late night flight to Portland the night before an education speech. Sam goes along with the President because Bartlet is having trouble getting the speech right, and Toby goes along as well to help Sam. C.J. is also forced to go after she criticized Notre Dame, Bartlet's alma mater. Meanwhile back in Washington, Josh argues with gay Congressman Matt Skinner over a bill prohibiting same-sex marriages, while Leo keeps an eye on a crisis in the Persian Gulf. Margaret worries that Leo might be tempted to drink again after he is served divorce papers.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FACT: The Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk helicopter is incorrectly referred to as the CH-47 Seahawk. The Boeing-Vertol CH-47 Chinook heavy lift helicopter is not used by the US Navy and therefore cannot be the helicopter in question. It is possible, however unlikely, that the writers intended to refer to the Boeing-Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight from which the CH-47 was developed.

TRIVIA

Ainsley tries to get a can of Fresca, but they do not keep Fresca in the building. According to historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, Lyndon Johnson loved the soda Fresca so much he had a fountain installed in the Oval Office that dispensed the beverage, which the president could operate by pushing a button on his desk chair.
