Summary: When the new pastor (Rev. Fordwick) arrives on the mountain, he stays with the Walton’s and starts to lock horns with John Boy regarding his sermons. Instead of the belief of putting the fear of fire and brimstone in the congregation’s heads, John Boy believes that compassion and forgiveness is a better lesson to teach. Eventually, John Boy and Rev. Fordwick come to understand one another and start to respect each other.

Growing up in those long-gone days, I took for granted the discomfort of a hot summer; but as a novice writer I took it as my duty to question other things, like sin and what made a sinner. Trouble was, no one seemed to agree. |
