Mistakes/Goofs

• Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Chris and Paulie open the trunk with the Russian inside, Chris mentions that he chewed through the tape. Why would they put tape on his mouth if they thought they had killed him. When they are walking through the woods with the Russian at gun point you can see that the Russian is wearing snow boots. Why would he be sitting in his own home in pajamas with boots on. Obviously the actor put the boots on so he could comfortably walk through the snow.
• Goof (factual errors): Paulie is seen pumping his own gas before he and Chris ride down to the Pine Barrens. Self-service at gas stations are illegal in New Jersey.
• Goof (continuity error): When Tony and Gloria are having a fight at her place, Gloria throws the dish with steak at the table and breaks it into pieces. In the next scene, before she throws the steak at Tony's head we can see that the dish is one piece again.

Trivia

• SPOILER: It was never revealed whether Valery survived or not, causing much discussion among fans. In an interview, David Chase said "I do know where the Russian is. But I'll never say because so many people got so pissy about it."
• Steve Buscemi has said on the commentary for the DVD that he was the one who threw the steak at Tony's head.
• The idea for this episode came from a dream 'Tim Van Patten' had about Paulie and Christopher lost in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. The dream stemmed from childhood memories of stories his father used to tell him about a creature that lived in the Pine Barrens.
• In order to make James Gandolfini genuinely laugh when he sees Bobby in his hunting outfit, Steve Schirripa actually came out wearing a dreadlocks wig, and a large dildo hanging out of his underwear.
• SPOILER: According to Tony Sirico, a scene was written for a later episode in which Paulie and Christopher see Valery on the street. But the scene was never filmed.
