Summary: Mr. Burns loses all of his money through a series of foolish investments. Burns recalls how Lisa Simpson goaded him so roughly when he spoke at her school and decides to enlist her to help him gain his fortune back. At first, Lisa distrusts the evil tycoon, but together they start a recycling business that earns them a fortune, one nickel at a time. Burns soon branches out, starting a fish and dolphin trapping business that disgusts Lisa with its brutality. Lisa denounces Burns yet again, refusing to accept any of his money.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FACT: When Mr Burns is reading the stock ticker, he starts from December 1929 and discovers the stock market crash. The stock market crashed two months prior to that on October 29 1929. He would have already known about it.
CONT: When Mr Burns prepares to leave his house when the bank takes it, he and Smithers walk to the staircase on the second floor and stop on the left hand side of the staircase and are about to climb down. But when the next shot pans out to them as the wrestler and the real estate agent talk, they are walking down the stairs on the right hand side.
DATE: As old as Mr. Burns is, he is not old enough to own "Confederate Slaveholder" stock. This originally aired in 1997, and going by Mr. Burns' usual-given age of 104, that would put his birth at 1893. The Confederacy was dissolved in 1865, at the end of the Civil War.

TRIVIA

This episode's title spoofs the title of Ernest Hemingway's novel "The Old Man and the Sea".
When Mr. Burns leaves the Uriah's Heap, his goodbye quote to the man in charge is "shine on you crazy diamond." This is the title of a Pink Floyd song.
