Summary: Homer discovers the wonders of sushi, trying a piece of every fish on the menu of the Happy Sumo restaurant. But when he eats a bad piece of blowfish, he is poisoned and given 24 hours to live by Dr. Hibbert. With one day left on earth, Homer makes a list of everything he ever wanted to do but didn't and tries to pack it all in before he succumbs to the blowfish poison. After staying up all night, Homer survives and goes on to live his life exactly as he did before--watching TV and eating salty treats.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CHAR: Bart and Lisa both claim that sushi is raw fish. This is a common misconception; raw-fish dishes are sashimi, sushi (which can be made with raw fish, cooked fish, vegetables etc.) are vinegared-rice dishes.
CONT: The clock reads 7:00 when the kids enter for dinner, but switches to 5:00 after Marge mentions sushi.
CHAR: Fugu poisoning doesn't proceed in the manner Dr. Hibbert claims; what actually happens is that paralysis sets in almost immediately, resulting in eventual death from asphyxiation when it reaches the lungs. However, Dr. Hibbert's mistake in this matter forms the entire basis of this episode.

TRIVIA

The karaoke singer, Richie Sakai, sings 'Gyspies, Tramps and Thieves' by 'Cher'. Bart and Lisa sing the theme song to the film Shaft (2000), originally by Isaac Hayes.
This episode marks the first appearance of Akira, the Japanese waiter. Here he is voiced by George Takei, but in later appearances Hank Azaria took over the role.
In the early seasons of the show, Homer sports some chest hair.
Homer's list of things he wants to do on his last day on Earth are as follows: Make list (crossed out), eat a hearty breakfast, make videotape for Maggie, have Man-To-Man with Bart, listen to Lisa play her sax, make funeral arrangements, make peace with Dad, beer with the boys at the bar, tell off boss, [go] hang gliding, plant a tree, a final dinner with my beloved family and be 'intimate' with Marge.
