Jim Ellison works for the Cascade PD in Major Crimes. When he experiences trouble with his five senses, he meets Blair Sandburg an anthropologist, who explains to him he's a Sentinel and helps him control his senses. Their friendship and odd partnership allow them to fight crime and lock villains away.

Thus, the fictional city of Cascade came into being. The only remnant of Seattle was an undeleted reference to the Seattle Supersonics in the pilot episode. The Cascade basketball team became the Jaguars in later episodes.
