Unlike many episodes of the show, in which the brief message left on Jim Rockford's answering machine before the opening credits is essentially a self-contained joke, the message in this episode actually relates to the upcoming episode: Beth Davenport (Gretchen Corbett) leaves a message reminding Jim about taking care of her cat while she's away. Later in the episode, Jim tells Angel that he's "bunking at Beth's place" to take care of her cat, and is shown both sleeping in her apartment and dealing with her cat.
