SPOILER: In the Pilot episode, while saying goodbye, Seth gave Ryan a map of the Pacific Ocean. Symbolically, In The Ties That Bind, while saying goodbye again, Ryan returned Seth his map.
When Ryan leaves Newport, he is wearing the same outfit he arrived in one year before. He also watches Marissa at the end of her driveway as he did the first time he left Newport. It's kind of like a flashback.
The final scene features the first five cast members from the opening credits. Julie and Summer are not seen.
Adam Brody (I) (Seth Cohen) doesn't like boats, so when he sails away he is not in the boat at all. It is a 40-year old stunt double in a wig that is actually sailing the boat.
Jem performs live at the wedding. It's the only recorded performance she did for "Maybe I'm Amazed," which is a cover of Paul McCartney's hit.
