The Nightmare Room tv show photo

The Nightmare Room is based on fears kids have such as ghosts or monsters and normally ends with comments by the narrator whose final words always are "The nightmare room", then a door with the The Nightmare Room logo appears closing. In many ways, the series resembles The Twilight Zone with teens taking the role as the main characters.

For every story directly based on an R.L. Stine book (not "Tangled Web" or "Four Eyes" which were inspired by certain ideas in "Liar Liar" and "Visitors", respectively, nor "Scareful What You Wish for" nor "School Spirit", though the latter did share characters with "Full Moon Halloween", which was book-based), at least one character, usually a supporting character such as a friend but occasionally a protagonist, had a name and gender switch. Most notably the three main characters in "My Name is Evil" had initials that matched their book counterparts, but changed from girls to boys (the best friends dropping from triplets to a pair of friends who were probably not related).
