Patrick Jane was previously making a living as a fraud TV psychic who assisted the police on cases. His life was turned upside down when he lost the two most important people in his life (his wife and child) to one of the serial killers he was tracking (Red John), who killed them to hurt Jane because Jane insulted Red John on television. He now uses his observation skills and genius to help the California Bureau of Investigation hunt down criminals and solve crimes, while on the look out for Red John in the hopes of avenging his familie's death. He works with Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon, Agents Kimball Cho & Wayne Rigsby, and the rookie Grace Van Pelt.
