Episode Quotes

Rhoda Morgenstern: Allow me to introduce myself, I'm another person in the room - Rhoda Morgenstern.
Howard Arnell: Oh, Howard Arnell, how do you do?
Rhoda Morgenstern: And this is my date, Mr. and Mrs. Armand Lynton.
Rhoda Morgenstern: How can you gorge yourself and stay so skinny? I'm so hungry I can't stand it.
Mary Richards: Why don't you eat something?
Rhoda Morgenstern: I can't. I've got to lose 10 lbs by 8:30.

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (continuity error): Mary and Rhoda are sitting down at Mary's dinner table eating a salad while discussing the single life. The table is set with 2 plates and a salad bowl. When, all of a sudden in the middle of one of Rhoda's quips about her mother calling her "an old maid" when she turned 21, the camera cuts to a wide shot and they are both drinking coffee and holding mugs with no visible salad bowl or salad plates in sight. This is a continuity issue because it happens right in the middle of Rhoda's sentence.

Trivia

  • The title quotes the words of the Bar Mitzvah boy's speech or the Hebrew right of passage, "Today, I am a man."
  • Episode depicts the first of Mary's notoriously disastrous parties.
  • It is mentioned that the address of the Victorian apartment building where Mary, Rhoda and Phyllis live is 119 North Weatherly.
