Tom Snyder (I) appeared as himself on the show as a candidate for the hosting job for a proposed talk show to follow Larry's. As a direct result of this appearance, David Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company hired Snyder to host "The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder" (1995), a talk show developed to follow "Late Show with David Letterman" (1993) each night.
The episode "The Performance Artist" was based on the infamous episode of "Late Night with David Letterman" (1982), in which comedian Bill Hicks (II)' act was cut from the show.
David Duchovny's appearances on the show focused on his attraction to Larry.
