In the closing credits, Inspector Erskine (Efram Zimbalist, JR) could always be seen driving off in the current years Ford Mustang.
Earlier episodes had the actual case numbers in the opening credits.
W. Mark Felt, the F.B.I. associate director later unmasked as the infamous Watergate informant "Deep Throat," served as a technical advisor for the series.
In June of 2009, real life FBI director Robert Mueller honored Efrem Zimbalist Jr. with a plaque and badge making Zimbalist an honorary FBI Agent for his work on the series.
F.B.I. memos, which were recently released under the Freedom of Information Act, have revealed that the real F.B.I. had a veto over casting for guest stars on the series. According to the memos, actors Robert Blake and Bette Davis were barred from making guest appearances on the series.
