Season 2 Trivia

  • Episode 08 - If you were to pause right after the scene where Pope Alexander IV and his Cardinals are seated for their meal (at around 15 mins), John Maybury (the director) has them seated reflecting Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper'.
  • Episode 08 - (at around 15 mins) During the dinner in which the Pope says there is still 15 days of lent. Once the shot changes to a general shot the cardinals position themselves like the apostles in Da Vinci's "last super"
  • Episode 08 - Goof (anachronisms): At Lucrezia's proposal scene, the scale model on the table is far too modern: her three cannon decks, rig and lines show she is either a the late 1700's ship of the line or a heavily armed East Indiaman from the same period. The action takes place around 1500.
  • Episode 05 - Goof (factual errors): In actuality, Giovanni Sforza died peacefully in 1510, out living Rodrigo Borgia and his cousin Caterina.
  • Episode 07 - Goof (factual errors): The incident of Caterina Sforza's eldest son being held hostage occurred in 1488 after the murder of her first husband, Giralomo Riario. Eye witness accounts differ as to whether or not she hiked her skirt, showing her genitals and saying she could always make more kids.
