Episode Quotes

Sheldon Cooper: This is Stan Lee's front door. We were on Stan Lee's curb, then we were on Stan Lee's walk and now we're at Stan Lee's front door.
Penny: Yep.

Sheldon Cooper: Oh, Lord. You just rang Stan Lee's doorbell. It's Stan Lee's house. We're about to go in and have milk and cookies with Stan Lee.
Penny: Okay sweetie. I don't know if we're gonna have cookies or he's just gonna say hi or really what's gonna happen so just let me talk and we'll...

Stan Lee: Yeah?
Penny: Are you Stan Lee?
Stan Lee: Oh damn.
Penny: Hi. I'm Penny. This is my friend Sheldon.
Sheldon Cooper: We're not friends at the moment. Depends on how this goes.
Penny: Right, right. Anyway Sheldon here is a huge fan of yours and he was supposed to meet you the other day at the comic book store but he kind of ended up in jail.
Stan Lee: I see. And you thought you'd just come over to my house uninvited?
Sheldon Cooper: You said we *were* invited.
Penny: No, I said I'm inviting *you* to come with *me* to Stan Lee's house.
Stan Lee: You know, you fanboys are unbelievable! You think you can just ring my doorbell any time you want? I mean, why don't you just come on in and watch the Lakers game with me?
Sheldon Cooper: Well, I'm not much of a sports fan, but thank you.

Penny: Sorry. He doesn't really understand sarcasm.
Stan Lee: Well I'll give him something he'll understand. Joanie! Call the police!
Penny: Nice to meet you.
Sheldon Cooper: Objection, your honor! You're ignoring the law!
Judge J. Kirby: I'm following the law. I'm ignoring you.
Penny: [calling Leonard on the phone] Sheldon's in jail.
Leonard Hofstadter: [to others] Sheldon's in jail.
Raj Koothrappali: [to Howard] You called it.
Leonard Hofstadter: Why is he in jail?
Penny: Why do you think? For pulling the same crap he always does, only to a judge.

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Sheldon states that he doesn't trust banks, though in two previous episodes, he referenced his use of them. First, in Season Two's "The Financial Permeability", he mentions he has a "small savings account". Then, in Season Three's "The Jiminy Conjecture", he retrieves his "Flash" comic book from a safe deposit box, which he would have had to rent from a bank.
  • Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Raj wants to ask Stan Lee about his alliteration in character names and Howard tells him not to because it will annoy him. No wonder, as he has stated that this quirk is because he has a bad memory and it made it easy to remember. Surely a fanboy would know that.
  • Goof (errors made by characters, possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When the guys sit in the living room searching comic books to be signed by Stan Lee, Sheldon says "... will set me apart from the hoi polloi of comic fandom". "Hoi polloi" is Greek for "the majority", making the usage of "the" before it redundant. This is especially important as Sheldon is depicted as being very accurate about foreign language terms; he wouldn't have made a mistake like that.

Trivia

  • When Stan Lee answers the door at the end he is wearing a "Fantastic Four" robe.
  • Title reference: Stan Lee's catchphrase is "Excelsior".
  • Sheldon misses out on meeting Marvel comics writer Stan Lee after having to attend court for a speeding ticket. The judge at his trial is called "J Kirby" in reference to Jack Kirby, aka "the king of comics", a writer that contributed with Stan Lee.
