Summary: Sheldon and Leonard are two brilliant, but socially inept theoretical physicists who share an apartment. In the series premier, they meet their new neighbor, Penny, a stereotypical beautiful dumb blond. In spite of the obvious hopelessness of the situation, Leonard is utterly smitten.

Sheldon: So, if a photon is directed through a plane with two slits in it and either slit is observed, it will not go through both slits. If it's unobserved, it will. However, if it's observed after it's left the plane, but before it hits its target, it will not have gone through both slits.
Leonard: Agreed. What's your point?
Sheldon: It's no point. I just think it's a good idea for a t-shirt.

Sheldon: You're not done with her, are you?
Leonard: Our babies will be smart AND beautiful.
Sheldon: Not to mention imaginary.

Trivia

This is the only show where Raj was seen with a hat.
Leonard states that the combined IQ of Sheldon and himself is 360. In a later episode of season 1 Sheldon states his IQ as 187 meaning that Leonard's IQ is 173.
The experiment discussed by Sheldon at the very beginning of the episode is a quantum version of the well-known "double-slit experiment."
While Penny has a pleasant outgoing personality, Katie from the unaired pilot opening was meaner and mocked them. Penny does have a temper and some of this personality came over from the first pilot when she's really mad.
Sheldon reveals that he has 212 friends on Myspace.
