The Benny Hill Show (UK) (1955) tv show photo

This is the first television series to bear Benny Hill's name. It is here that Benny began a remarkably long run on British television, lasting in one form or another for the next three and a half decades. In this incarnation, Benny blazed new trails in British television comedy, both in content and technical production; and first brought such characters as Fred Scuttle and Mervyn Cruddy to life.

The last three of Benny Hill's shows for the BBC, first aired on 20 November 1968, 11 December 1968 and 26 December 1968, were erased by the Corporation after Benny Hill moved to Thames Television in 1969. The only surviving portions of this final series consist of 20 minutes of filmed inserts for the very last show. Most of his 1960s shows, up to the 20 April 1968 edition, remain in the BBC archives.
