The series, based on the 1985 movie starring Michael J. Fox, is about a teenage boy and his family who can transform into werewolves. Scott Howard and his family live in the fictional town of Wolverton, a small town that draws tourists because of its history of werewolf sightings. Unlike the film, Scott's status as a werewolf is a secret.

As a result, only 8 original episodes of "Teen Wolf" (instead of the usual 13 shows made for a season of an animated series) were produced for its second and final season, which aired on CBS from September 1987 until August 1988 (a total of 21 shows were made in the series). All episodes from both seasons were rerun on CBS from October 1988 until September 1989.
