After Tabitha's friend Portia puts a "swinger" spell on her boss Marvin Decker, he wanders by her and says, "Who loves ya, baby?" Tabitha quips, "That's all we need, a black Kojak." That line was one of Kojak's catch phrases. Tabitha's statement is something of a prediction since in 2005 the police series Kojak was remade with black actor Ving Rhames starring as Lieutenant Theo Kojak.
The title refers to the song "That Old Black Magic" written by Harold Arlen, with the lyrics by Johnny Mercer.
