Army-style warfare against crime in big-city police work. That was S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics) whose job it was to tackle those situations, usually violent ones, that line police couldn't handle, with whatever weaponry was necessary. Mostly recruited from Vietnam veterans the S.W.A.T. squad dressed in semi military attire and were organized along the lines of a front-line patrol.
