Summary: While investigating the disappearance of a missing man, Sam and Dean have to break in to the place where he disappeared, but they get caught, and Dean is shot and killed by the owner. When Sam wakes up the next morning he is shocked, Dean is alive, but as the day continues Sam realizes that they are re-living the previous day so he tries to stop Dean from getting shot, but he fails and Dean dies again... and again... and again, so Sam has to learn how to continue on without his brother.

Mistakes/Goofs

Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: When Dean (Jensen Ackles) is in the shower after dying several times, he peeks his head out and asks Sam (Jared Padalecki) about breakfast. When you first see Dean lean out of the shower, his hair is all squished down on his head and there are soap bubbles only on his hand and forehead. The camera pans to Sam and back again, we see Dean with his hand un-soaped, in a different position, his hair spiked and his face covered in soap, without Dean having any time to make such changes.
Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: After Dean is shot in the parking lot outside of the motel blood is seen spurting out of his chest. Several seconds later as the camera pans out Dean can be seen without any blood on him or the ground.
Goof (continuity error): SPOILER: The shotgun with which Dean is shot is different to the shotgun the man is holding when he is being told by Sam to call 911, which has a longer barrel than the first in the scene.
Goof (continuity error): One morning Dean takes a shower, but Sam always says nothing changes. Dean always is putting on his boots when Sam wakes up to Heat Of The Moment.

Trivia

According to Jared Padalecki, this episode was written to serve as a season finale if the writer's strike forced the production to a halt. If that happened, Dean was really supposed to be dead in the end and the Trickster would not bring him back. As the strike was settled, the episode continued to be just a regular episode. Because of the strike, though, season 3 has only 16 episodes, instead of the usual 22.
In the diner, Dean gets excited over "Pig In A Poke" being the special of the day. Sam asks him if he even knows what that is. In fact, "pig in a poke" is also an expression that refers to an item being presented in a way that conceals its true value; or in particular, its lack of value. This seems to be a reference to the Trickster being behind the magic of this hunt and not the Mystery Spot as Sam and Dean first thought.
