Summary: After blond women are brutally murdered in their apartment building, Sam and Dean soon discover that the ghost of H. H. Holmes, the first serial killer, is behind the murders. Elsewhere, Jo openly defies her mother's wishes and chases after the Winchester brothers as they pursue H. H. Holmes. However, Jo's plan goes wrong when she ends up buried alive by the ghost.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FACT: Among the research and paperwork on a table regarding H. H. Holmes and his crimes is a black and white photo of a dead woman. However, the photo is not of one of Holmes' many victims, it's of Elizabeth Stride, one of Jack the Ripper's victims.
FAKE: When Sam and Dean are going over the information about Holmes' Chicago murder house with Jo, they show a picture of one of his victims. The picture is actually a mortuary photograph of Elizabeth Stride, one of Jack the Ripper's Victims.

TRIVIA

Jo's middle name is Beth.
Unlike most of the demons, spirits, and creatures that the Winchester brothers hunt, the ghost in this episode is based on a real-life historical figure: the serial killer Herman Webster Mudgett (1861-1896), b.k.a. Dr. Henry Howard Holmes. Many of the details mentioned by the Winchesters about H. H. Holmes are historically true: he did confess to 27 murders (9 confirmed); he did build a so-called "Murder Castle" in Chicago so he would be able to carry out his crimes in secret; there is evidence that he used chloroform in at least some of his crimes; he was executed by hanging in Philadelphia; and, at his request, he was buried in concrete so no one would be able to molest his corpse.
The loft set from season 2's episode "No Exit" was transformed into artist George Darrow's apartment for the episode "Crossroad Blues".
The photograph of the victim H.H. Holmes was said to have murdered was actually a photograph of Jack the Ripper's victim - Elizabeth Stride, 1888.
One of the mortuary photos seen on the table is of Elizabeth Stride, a victim of Jack the Ripper.
