Summary: Stardate: 47215.5 Geordi experiments with a machine which allows him to control a probe through brain-power alone, and then learns the technology could help save his long missing mother, and then disobeys Picard's orders in his attempt to rescue her. However, is this person really his missing mother?

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FAKE: Geordi uses an interface suit to manipulate a remote probe. In scenes from the probe's point-of-view, Geordi is depicted as if he were actually in the remote location, but his reflection is that of the probe. However, he casts a human shadow, not a probe-shaped shadow.

TRIVIA

The initial idea had Riker in the virtual-reality suit, troubled by the death of his father, and seeing scenes of the Alaska cabin where he grew up. This was changed because Riker had gone through a similar mind trip last season, and also the logic of using Geordi's VISOR implants.
The first of two occasions Warren Munson plays a Starfleet admiral. He later played Tom Paris' father, Admiral Owen Paris in "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995), before being replaced by Richard Herd (I).
Just as in "Identity Crisis", LeVar Burton had a male nurse assist him with the costume between takes.
The third episode where Geordi forms a bond with the image of a person, only to find that the reality is rather different. E.g, Dr Leah Brahms.
