Summary: Stardate: 46424.1 Professor Moriarty reappears on the holodeck when Lt. Barclay performs a diagnostic check. Moriarty is able to take control of the Enterprise, and demands that the love of his life, Countess Regina Barthalomew, be given the cognizance he has been given. However, is this really his true goal?

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FAKE: Some obvious matte work in some scenes, like when Picard, Data and Barclay finally shut down Moriarty's holodeck program.
CHAR: Moriarty tells Picard that Sherlock Holmes was written by an Englishman. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the creator of Holmes) was Scottish, not English.

TRIVIA

The most difficult part of the show allegedly was casting the part of Countess Regina. Director Alexander Singer noted: "It was difficult because we needed someone who could pull off an English accent, had a regal appearance, and looked sexy in Victorian clothes. When I saw Stephanie Beacham I said that's it. End of story."
One of producer Brannon Braga's favourite episodes: "My favourite kind of show, a twisty turny complex mystery. I thought it worked pretty well and the pairing of Barclay and Moriarty was inspired."
Because of all of the various layers of reality in this episode, even the Star Trek staff couldn't keep up with them. They later became so confused that during break sessions, they would draw diagrams to keep track of them all.
Stephanie Beacham is deaf in one ear. She can be seen tilting her head to hear out of her good ear in the scene when she talks to Picard.
Ship in a Bottle has one of the longest teasers in the entire series. It clocks in at just over six and a half minutes.
