MISTAKES/GOOFS
- CHAR: In the episode Time's Arrow: Part 1, Data & Picard are examining artifacts in the cave when first arriving on earth. Picard picks up a Colt revolver which Data incorrectly identifies as a Colt "double action" revolver when it is in fact a Colt "single action" revolver.
- PLOT: When first talking to Guinan in 1800s San Francisco, Data says that the Enterprise is a starship, even though Samuel Clemens is standing right next to them. It is highly unlikely that Data would have made such a colossal blunder.
- CHAR: Though he says he's from New Orleans, Larouque's Southern accent is entirely out of place since the NOLA accent is more akin to Brooklyn than northern Louisiana, because of New Orleans' history as a center of immigration.
- FACT: Jack London is working as a bellboy at the Hotel Brian in San Francisco and a newspaper that Data has picked up reveals the present date as Sunday, August 13, 1893. During that year London sailed to Japan and when he returned there was much labor unrest and a financial panic gripped the San Francisco - Oakland area.
- CONT: After Data travels to the phase which he can see the Divinia II aliens, he describes them as having four arms, but later on when the other Enterprise officers travel to the same phase, we see the aliens only have two arms, not four as Data described earlier.
TRIVIA
- Data's severed head was later used as the severed head of a Borg Drone in the Star Trek Voyager episode Unimatrix Zero.
- Jerry Hardin had never played Mark Twain before, but he became so enamoured with the character after this that he created a one-man touring show about him.
- Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain, had a significant part to play in Philip Jose Farmer's Riverworld series. Which were science-fiction as well.
- All the exterior scenes in San Francisco were shot on location, like the historic Pico house and along Olvera Street. The restored area near the first mission in old Los Angeles.
- Executive producers Michael Piller and Rick Berman had at first not wanted to end Season 5 with a cliffhanger. But they changed they're minds when Deep Space Nine went into production at this point. Piller remarked: "Because of all the attention DS9 was getting and the rumours that TNG was shutting down, we wanted to send a message that the show was alive, well and continuing to grow."
