Summary: Stardate: 44821.3 Dr. Crusher’s romantic involvement with a Trill goes wrong when the Trill’s host dies. Riker agrees to act as a substitute host till the new host can arrive. However, can Riker’s body handle the Trill long enough till the new host arrives?

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CHAR: When Odan (a Trill) gets injured in the shuttle, he begs Riker not to transport them back to the Enterprise because the transporter would kill him. Yet on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Dax (a fellow Trill) beams into and out of places all the time.

TRIVIA

First appearance of the conjoined symbiotic race of the Trill, and only TNG appearance. Of course the Trill would appear regularly on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993), primarily with the characters of Jadzia Dax and Ezri Dax.
The appearance of the Trill symbiont would change its appearance from when it initially appeared on this episode to how it would appear on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993). In this episode, the symbiont's appearance was made to resemble a caterpillar with the head of an octopus. According to Make-Up Supervisor Michael Westmore (I), the symbiont was re-made for DS9 to be more "stream-lined" to make it easier to handle. Also the appearance of the Trill hosts would change as well. In this episode, the Trill hosts had semi-ridged foreheads and no body spots , but on DS9, they have normal foreheads, and body spots.
