Summary: Stardate: 44474.5 The Federation science team on Ventax II has been taken hostage. Alerted by the science station's distress call, the Enterprise arrives to investigates. There it finds the Ventaxians in a state of panic. According to their mythology, their ancestors made a deal with Ardra, a figure reminiscent of the Devil, one thousand years ago. Having seemingly fulfilled her part of the bargain, Ardra returns to lay claim to the planet.

In the original script, the "Devil," Komether, was actually the mental energy of the surviving planetary elder Zxolar and his long-dead peers. Only when it was decided to adapt the script for this series was the "Devil's" character changed to a female con artist.
The title refers to a quote from Shakespeare "The devil shall have his bargain; for he was never yet a breaker of proverbs - he will give the devil his due."
Based on an unused script for an episode of the aborted series "Star Trek: Phase II"
