Summary: Stardate: 44012.3 As Capt. Picard tries to recover from the effects of his Borg assimilation, he visits his family’s ancestral estate in France. There, he must contend with the bitter in fighting that he and his older brother have had since their childhood. Resolving this old age old dispute soon appears to be the path to Picard’s redemption.

While not written or filmed until well after the completion of "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", "Family" became the unofficial third installment of the Borg trilogy.
The only episode in the series that does not have a scene take place on the bridge.
Brent Spiner (Data) does not appear in this show, the only one of the entire series in which he is absent.
Jack Crusher appears in the hologram wearing a Starfleet uniform from the TOS films but without the undershirt that had trapunto collar and cuffs and with a TNG-era com-badge.
When Picard tells Robert of what he experienced at the hands of the Borg, the part of his face not covered in mud very closely resembles the Borg implants he had been fitted with.
