MISTAKES/GOOFS

CHAR: The crew are entertained by a recital that starts with a Mozart string quartet, as promised. This needs four players: two violins, viola and cello. The piece that causes Sarek's tear is in fact Brahms' Sextet #1 - which would require six players, i.e. an additional viola and cello.

TRIVIA

Director Les Landau filmed Picard's outburst while moving the camera around him starting from his left and finishing on his right. Because the shot was filmed several times in a single take, Patrick Stewart (I) had to do the heavily emotional scene several times in its entirety as well.
First time a Vulcan mind meld was done in the Next Generation series.
Sarek introduces Perrin to Captain Picard and Commander Riker as "she who is my wife" as he introduced Spock's mother, Amanda to Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy during the first Star Trek series.
Refers to Spock and his mother Amanda during Picard's mind-meld with Sarek wherein Sarek admits his love for both of them.
Per the title, Sarek is a legendary Federation ambassador, scientist and father of the half-human Star Fleet officer and science officer of the NCC-1701 USS Enterprise Spock who served under the equally legendary Captain James Tiberius Kirk.
