Episode Quotes
 | Season 3 / Episode 15: - Yesterday's Enterprise
Doctor Beverly Crusher: Captain, you need at least another 24 hours. Capt. Rachel Garrett: Nonsense. Doctors always overprotect their patients. Doctor Beverly Crusher: And captains always push themselves too hard! Capt. Rachel Garrett: Doctor, my ship and crew need me now. 24 hours might as well be 24 years! |
 | Season 3 / Episode 15: - Yesterday's Enterprise
Capt. Picard: Who is to say that this history is any less proper than the other? Guinan: I suppose I am. Capt. Picard: Not good enough, damn it! Not good enough! I will not ask them to die! Guinan: Forty billion people have already died! This war's not supposed to be happening! You've got to send those people back to correct this! Capt. Picard: And what is to guarantee that if they go back they will succeed? Every instinct is telling me this is wrong, it is dangerous, it is futile! Guinan: We've known each other a long time. You have never known me to impose myself on anyone or take a stand based on trivial or whimsical perceptions. This timeline must not be allowed to continue. Now, I've told you what you must do. You have only your trust in me to help you decide to do it. |

MISTAKES/GOOFS
- CONT: When Alternate Riker is killed in the blast, he lands on his back with his head looking over his right shoulder. As Picard turns around and looks, Riker's head is now facing his left shoulder.
- CONT: In the final scene where Guinan and LaForge are having a drink and conversation about Tasha Yar, LaForge is clearly wearing the uniform from the alternate reality. This is identified with the black cuffs on the sleeves and the altered collar.
- CHAR: Data uses the contraction "There's" instead of "There is" during an examination of the temporal rift with Captain Picard. It is possible that his speech pattern has been changed in the alternate timeline, but no reference is made.
- FACT: After Captain Garrett's death, Lieutenant Castillo assumes command of Enterprise-C, but he continues to be called "lieutenant." Certain 20th Century maritime traditions have changed in the Star Trek universe, however, this tradition, which probably dates back more than 1,000 years, will not change. Loyalty to their former commander not withstanding, the second Castillo assumes command, he is The Captain and, regardless of actual rank, he would be addressed as "Captain" by everyone - especially naval officers in a war zone.
- BOOM: When Data says "Nothing I have seen before" during the scan of the temporal rift, the tip of the microphone comes into view above Captain Picard's head.
TRIVIA
- Established the events that resulted in the birth of the human-Romulan character Sela that was played in subsequent shows by Denise Crosby.
- In one bridge scene, the loudspeaker in the background is calling for a "Lieutenant Barrett" referring to Majel Barrett who played the voice of the computer, Lwaxana Troi (Deanna's mother), Nurse Chapel (TOS series), Number One in the original Star Trek pilot and was Gene Roddenberry's widow.
- In the alternate time-line, this episode's story writer Trent Christopher Ganino's name can be seen on a tactical situation monitor showing the progress of the Klingons in their war with the Federation.
- The ambient noise level aboard the ship was increased in the alternate time-line. Consoles and displays were made more audible, the warp engines made a dull roar sound, intra-ship communication announcements increased, the doors made a "swoosh" sound reminiscent of the sound effect used in the original series. Set lighting was also significantly changed and darkened.
- In an early development for the story, Ambassador Sarak (Spock's father played by Mark Lenard) used the Guardian of Forver (TOS: City on the Edge of Forever) to replace Surak, the father of the Vulcan philosophy of logic who had been killed resulting in a new time-line rather than Tasha Yar performing a similar service.
